Cindy Sherman WORKS COMMENTS

Cindy Sherman is one of the most significant women artists working in a conceptual vein today. Her medium is photography and her subject is herself, depicted in a range of poses and roles that reflect the history of the representation of women in art and the modern mass media. Untitled #122A is from a series employing designer fashions made in 1983 for the magazine “Interview.” Although she wears a very elegant silk evening suit, Sherman’s characterization of an angry, pressured, apparently exploited platinum blonde model with tear-streaked make-up vividly evokes the dark side of glamour.
