Brice Marden WORKS COMMENTS

Brice Marden’s work is a marvellous piece of post-abstract painting. As the title, Chinese Dancing, indicates, it focuses on the rhythm conveyed by intertwining lines of color that appear to record of the movement of the painter’s hand. Yet the painting is also concerned with order, just as is the dance, whose defining trait is a repeated sequence of movements. In addition, the three primary colors blue, yellow and red, on which the order of the color wheel is based, are interwoven to produce a vivid, harmonious chord.
